I still owe the Itinerary a proper “London” Blog. I’m not sure what I’m waiting for but I just know…I should wait! Yes, I’ve been eating at a lot of cool restaurants…
Just after my friend arranged a 2020 “Goal Planning” party I was already due to check off one aspiration on my list. Hopefully many more are to follow because I made sure to make connections with people I worked closely with during this internship. Right now, I still feel as though I’m on some sort of high. Just the fact that something I’ve daydreamed about for years finally happened is a nice feeling. I had applied for an internship to assist a set designer for London Fashion Week Men’s fashion brand: Ahluwalia Studio after Christmas and on New Years Day was recruited onto the team.
I’m still sorting out where I see myself professionally. Documenting shows at fashion week seemed unattainable but I told myself that, “I’d shoot street style at fashion week even if I don’t get these jobs.” I am grateful that I could instead experience the production of the shows and work with a talented team. Supporting the vision of a designer with a team of aspirational people was very fulfilling. The experience was pleasant and everyone was great to work with. I know not every job experience will be this way but it’s rewarding to discover what possibilities are out there.
I was especially pleased to be working for a designer who designs sustainably as well. Fashion is the second largest polluter in the world, so I felt seeking work under a responsible brand was definitely a duty of mine. Especially since I have just wrapped up a final project for my MA on this very topic. More back ground on the collection can be found here.
I arrived to the internship early both days. The first day I explored around the area and realized I’m really starting to grow familiar with certain places. Am I feeling at home? The second day I arrived early to try to shoot street style. I feel more comfortable now and will give LFW a try. That will be much more chaotic I hear…
